Gaddo Morpurgo, was born in Trieste in 1947 and lives among Venice and Asola (Mantova).
In 1972 he graduated in architecture at the University of Venice, IUAV, lead by Giancarlo de Carlo.
Among the architects of the "after the war" generation he was one of the first to treat, inside the university, the didactics of design oriented to multimedia communication themes and, to explore unusual research themes such as retail esign.
He is a full professor of Industrial Design in the University of Venice, Faculty of Art and Design, and lead the courses of Industrial Design Lab course at the Industrial `Design department, design for local development Lab of the Master program in Product Design .
He developed his personal research activities of design and consultation in the design field, collaborating with structures and cultural public institutions - as The Minister for Cultural Assets and Activities of the San Marino Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, the municipalities of Cattolica, Pesaro and Venice, the province of Milan,modern art gallery of Bologna, Biennale di Venezia, Triennale di Milano, Sissa of Trieste -, and private institutions such as Coats, Olivetti and Osram.
He taught at the Industrial Design department of the Politecnico of Milan, gave lessons and arranged didactic workshops for the Hochschule Fuer Angewandte Kunst in Vienna, the Cambre of Bruxelles, the Universidad de Cartagena de Indias in Colombia and the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
His works were exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia and the Triennale di Milano.
Since 1998 he works on the development of natural materials and design for the south of the world, putting into action research missions in different places like Colombia, Vietnam and Rwanda accompanied by 'workshops and didactic design labs.
He is one of the promoters of the Design and Arts Faculty of the University IUAV of Venice, where from 2004 to 2006 he was the Dean of the Product Design Master degree, in 2005 he founded the degree program in Industrial Design at the San Marino Republic University, where he operated as Dean till 2008.
Since 2008 he founded and managing the "AtelierRwanda", in Rwanda, Kanobe (Kigali), a research and design centre for projects and innovation in the south of the world.
Related to his works, a volume named "Gaddo Morpurgo progetti/pensieri/ricerche" (Gaddo Morpurgo projects/toughts/research) was recently published by Dario Scodeller, Foschi Editore Forli 2008.
